So here i am yesterday, on a cold sunny day in Victoria, standing in front of Discount Dressmaker Supplies on Douglas Street. We didn't bring the camera so these pictures are crappy cell phone ones. They make you look like you are 60 lbs fatter than you are trust me.
( And if you do , i have a bridge i can sell you lol). Note the light jacket and fabric scarf. When i was getting ready i realized i have hardly any knits for myself. I am wearing a pair of fingerless gloves i did of mohair. And a fuzzy hat. Believe me i can't wait for Me-uary! Anyhow. There was a sign on the door that said 'back in 10 minutes' but it was so cold we decided to go to White Spot for coffee. Which we did. Yay cause, as i said, it was c c c cold. Shamefully i must admit that i seldom have been out of the house since the summer time and it felt very good to do so.
Discount Dressmakers was the destination because a rav friend needed a 12 inch separable zipper. I'd forgotten all about the store until now. Which is a shame! It's full of things for knitters and of course sewers. And crocheters. And embroiderers. I spent $27 which included all of the loot in the following pictures plus the aformentioned zipper which got mailed pronto.

See the prices on the buttons?! Crazy! I'll be going back for more. I even was able to pick up a .60mm crochet hook for beading on knits. I think it was a whopping $1.20. I could be wrong because everything seems to be discounted. The elderly couple that i am sure are the owner's were very helpful and sweet. He referred to his wife as 'honey' :). They said they are looking to close up in the spring. I wouldnt want to hazard a guess at their ages but lets say well past retirement age. The shop has lace and trims and zippers and ribbon and buttons and scissors and knitting needles and yarn holders and...well you get the picture. They do not take interac so cash is best. If there's anyone out there looking to take over a business it seems ideal. The gentleman did ask me if i'd like to buy it :)

I've never tried hairpin lace but my sister used to do it all the time. And at $3 for the loom i thought i could give it a whirl. The beautiful square leather buttons are for a sweater for me. I think :) .89 cents a card!
I'm so glad i went out. It felt great. Today i stayed in and tried to catch up on the knitting but i'll be out again tomorrow. Opthamologist's appointment at 12:45.
